Note | Short Hills WMA contains 4,232 acres of rugged mountain habitat which is located in Rockbridge County. The area is predominantly forested (upland hardwoods) and comprises much of the east side of Short Hills Mountain between State Route 610 and the crest of the mountain. Portions of the Short Hills WMA extend over the crest to the western slope but are surrounded by private land. The headwaters of Cedar Creek originate on the Short Hills WMA. Access to the WMA is restricted to one (1) parking area along Route 610 near the southern end. Much of the WMA is remote and most of the area is surrounded by private land. The area is accessible by foot travel only from the parking area along Route 610. The Short Hills WMA is located near Natural Bridge, VA. The area is very scenic and easily accessible from Interstate I-81. The Short Hills WMA offers challenging and rewarding hunting for many forest game and upland game species. Elevations range from 1,400 feet to 2,600 feet along the ridge tops, while these areas are steep in places there is some gently sloping ground on the lower reaches of the WMA along Route 610. |
