NoteEncompasses approximately 10,900 acres and lies on the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Much of the Rapidan WMA borders Shenandoah National Park. This area is noted for its rugged yet picturesque landscape. Except for a few recent timber harvested areas, totaling about 70 acres, the habitat is primarily upland hardwoods with some areas of white pine mixed in. Topography is rugged containing high forested peaks and ridges and steep slopes and deep valleys. The area is drained by swift, cool water mountain streams. Because of the nature of the area, deer populations are not high, but healthy and stable. The Rapidan WMA is noted for its excellent black bear hunting, as a healthy and vibrant bear population occurs throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains.
